Mary, woman of listening, open our ears; grant us to know how to listen to the word of your Son Jesus among the thousands of words of this world; grant that we may listen to the reality in which we live, to every person we encounter, especially those who are poor, in need, in hardship. –Pope Francis

Gospel Mt 9:27-31

As Jesus passed by, two blind men followed him, crying out,
“Son of David, have pity on us!”
When he entered the house,
the blind men approached him and Jesus said to them,
“Do you believe that I can do this?”
“Yes, Lord,” they said to him.
Then he touched their eyes and said,
“Let it be done for you according to your faith.”
And their eyes were opened.
Jesus warned them sternly,
“See that no one knows about this.”
But they went out and spread word of him through all that land.

In his letter to believers, James writes, “Anyone who looks steadily at the perfect law of freedom and keeps to it–not listening and forgetting, but putting it into practice, will be blessed in every undertaking” (1:25). What makes us think that we really believe in Jesus, much less follow him, unless we somehow pass it on “to the least of the brothers and sisters” (Matthew 25:40) as he commanded?   –Richard Rohr
