“John McCain’s latest gambit is a day late and 101 million middle-class families short.”   -Bill Burton

Though Grace Abounds

Though grace abounds,
inhabits the ocean
in flotsam and rich
sea foam, then lies beached
with shells, rises again on
new waves, though angels ride
on those white-tipped waves,
then glide on through
the dry, sunny air, though

grace abounds, floats in
earth’s swirling dust,
sparkling like golden stars,
when the sun rushes through
an open door and falls onto
a wooden staircase—
often, sadly—I let light into my
heart only through a curtained
window on the second floor.

EDIT:  Lines return by popular request.  🙂

and, even then, only
in level teaspoonfuls.
