If you make my word your home
you will indeed be my disciples;
you will come to know the truth,
and the truth will set you free.

John 8:31

“He became like us that we might become like him. He did not cling to his equality with God, but emptied himself and became as we are so that we might become like him and thus share in his divine life. The radical transformation of our lives is the work of the Holy Spirit. The disciples could hardly comprehend what Jesus meant. As long as Jesus was present to them in the flesh, they did not recognize his full presence in the spirit. Jesus sends the Spirit so that we may be led to the full truth of the divine life. Truth does not mean an idea, concept, or doctrine, but the true relationship. To be led into the truth is to be led into the same relationship that Jesus has with the Father; it is enter into a divine betrothal. Thus Pentecost is the completion of Jesus’ mission. . . . To be lifted up into the divine life of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit does not mean, however, to be taken out of the world. . . . Having become sons and daughters as Jesus was Son, our lives have become a continuation of Jesus’ mission.”
