After reading blog entries and comments concerning writing and publishing on The Third Eve, I decided upon a direct approach toward seeking a book publisher. Eve states that there are enough publication opportunities for us all. So here goes:

Dear Poetry Editor:

I have a poetry book manuscript for your consideration for publication. My manuscript, Prayer In the Fog, is a book of forty-three poems (including two long poems, broken into several sections). The manuscript has 76 pages of poems and acknowledgments, not including front matter. My bio is also included.

Prayer In the Fog explores the intersections of memory (factual and embellished), dreams (daydreams and night dreams), reverie, and prayer, so that all of one’s thoughts can be envisioned as prayer. Although the book has strong spiritual overtones, it is not a religious book nor a book of poetic devotions. The events that serve as story in the poems make possible a life in which one can “pray without ceasing” (II Thessalonians 5:17) through the bad and the good.

The book is divided into seven sections: “Prayer At the Open Window,” “On-Going Memories,” “Several Contiguous Visions,” “Unrelenting Dream,” “Where the Reverie Is Apt To Lead,” “There Is a Presence,” and “Fog Dances.” The poems in each section were chosen so that transitions exist between sections and a continuity of theme is evident. Two long poems comprise their own sections.

Thank you for this opportunity to have my work considered. I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,
Helen Losse
