Jesus, the Blessed One, mourns. Jesus mourns when his friend Lazarus dies (see John 11:33-36); he mourns when he overlooks the city of Jerusalem, soon to be destroyed (see Luke 19:41-44). Jesus mourns over all losses and devastations that fill the human heart with pain. He grieves with those who grieve and sheds tears with those who cry.
The violence, greed, lust, and so many other evils that have distorted the face of the earth and its people causes the Beloved Son of God to mourn. We too have to mourn if we hope to experience God’s consolation.

He truly “feels our pain.” I loved the last line. “We too have to mourn if we hope to experience God’s consolation.”

Yes, too often we just get perturbed. We don’t really “mourn” as God does.

Helen, I have been thinking about this today and I had said God, “feels our pain.” A key to mourning is to feel pain or anguish. Not only does God feel our pain, but there is the scripture that talks about knowing Him in His suffering. We must feel His pain, our pain, and the pain of others. This is still causing my mind to think further.

Hi Jana, I think you are right. I think sometimes we are too busy being “happy” to feel the pain. Not that I think we should give up on happiness. Living a life of misery helps no one and certainly leads no one to Jesus, but the gap is wide between us and God’s perfect heaven and sometimes we forget that is so (except when we’re griping about how bad the world is, which isn’t the point at all). We need more of the “mind of Jesus” and less of our own way to solve problems.

I’m glad Jesus was called the “man of sorrows”, and I’m thankful that He is also the God of all comfort. If we ever want to be able to help others, we too are going to have to know some sorrow.

I agree, Carol.
