After reading today’s entry on Sherry Chandler’s blog, I am announcing my public endorsement of Hillary Clinton.
Sherry is an activist and a fine poet. Read her chapbook Worldview in the Dead Mule.
Hillary Clinton is an imperfect woman, running for an office held to date only by men. She has been a loyal wife under the most trying and embarrassing of conditions. She will work to provide health care for all Americans and to bring our soldiers home.
Please join me in supporting this fine American.

I can’t agree with your choice, Helen, but I think you’ve done a very credible job of explaining and supporting it. May the best (or the least worst) candidate win!

I agree Helen that Sherry wrote a great analysis on her blog. I think Hillary will win.
I’m just repeating the mantra . . . anybody but Bush.

Hi Earthpal, I think a vote for a Republican is going to result in four maore years of the same, minus the stupid smirk.

hockett house is backing hillary, which is something I never thought I’d see. rich has always been a strong republican, vs. my lifelong democrat status. we’ve joked for years that we were off to cancel each other’s vote. however, over the last 8 years, he’s become more and more disillusioned with his party. the state of the economy, the healthcare situation, the war…it all leads him to feel he’s been looking to the wrong party for comfort.
neither one of us has been very impressed with obama. he’s a little too arrogant and slick for me. and in all honesty, when oprah got involved, I decided he didn’t need my vote. I really liked bill clinton, and I was really happy when hillary threw her hat in the ring. I would like to see her pick edwards as her vice, but we’ll see. I really hope obama doesn’t get the nomination, but I reckon if he does, he’s STILL better than mccain or huckabee….

Hi Holly. I’d like a Clinton-Edwards ticket. But Obama’s all right. I’d take Obama-Edwards, too. We don’t need four more years of any Republican!

p.s. no matter who wins the Democratic nomination, I predict an explosive and amusing (in ways) campaign season.

Helen,
If I may ask, why Hillary? Because, from I was able to ascertain about your views so far, Obama is much closer to your views than Hillary. He is much more socialist. He is sure to try to implement some sort of socialized health care, much more so than Hillary. He is more likely to leave Iraq. So, why not Obama?
Don’t get me wrong, I personally prefer Hillary, just in case she becomes President, precisely for reasons I think Obama is more close to your views. But then, I am a Republican, i. e. classical liberal.
As for Hillary, could you, please, tell me why she is a Senator from New York, rather than Illinois or Arkansas?
Thanks.
Eric.

Eric, Hillary Clinton is a Senator form New York, because there was a vacancy she could fill by moving her residence to New York and running for office. So she did. The rich (and all of these candidates are millionaires, just some are richer than others) can afford to have house in several states. But even they must decide where their official residence is. Hillary and Bill Clinton now live in New York.
I think Hillary Clinton is more qualified than Obama. She has more experience, and she has backed a universal health care plan since Bill Clinton was first in office. She has said she will bring troops home as one of her first acts, if elected. Now everyone knows, the president can do only so much without Congress. But I think she’ll try. Also, I liked Bill Clinton as a President. And he’ll be there to give Hillary advice. That’s an added benefit. We can benefit from his experience as well.
Obama, on the other hand, has less experience. So I just don’t know what he thinks and would do. I will vote for him, if he’s the Democratic candidate, but I would prefer Hillary Clinton. I wish Obama had waited until 2012 or 2016 to run. He will be good but maybe not yet.
