Poet Michael Czarnecki and his family are taking a twenty-day journey across the United States following US Highway 20, as he did in 1996. Following the ealier trip, Czarnecki wrote his book Twenty Days on Route 20, now in its second printing and available from FootHills Printing, which Czarnecki and his family run.

This time Czarnecki’s family is with him as he travels and reads in various towns along his route. He is posting a diary and notes concerning each day on his web site. Some of the pictures are glorious: mountains, prairies, animals, wild flowers, as well as those of his family and a rare photo of Czarnecki himself on Day 4. (scroll down)
You don’t have to know anything about Czarnecki to appreciate the beauty he has captured, but his bio is interesting. This is a man who calls himself a “poet, oral memoirist and encourager, ” and that he is. He is the man who published my first chapbook. He has published chapbooks for Sherry Chandler, Jane Kretschmann, Terry Lowenstein, and many others.
Take a look at Michael Czarnecki’s Western Tour 2007 site. You can even leave comments.

He’s a neat guy,Shirley. He lives in rural New Your State and has Amish neighbors. An “encourager” he is!

Hi Helen,
Your friend certainly has taken some nice photos. I was impressed too that he was able to write some haikus from behind the wheel. Thanks for sharing.

Michael,
Are you the brother of Carol Czarnecki, RN? Graduate of St Mary’s Hospital school of Nursing in 1966. Can you tell me of her whereabouts? I was a classmate and friend of hers. I haven’t heard from her since 1969. I would like to get in touch again. thank you EILEEN
