We have a great group of poets in the Summer 2007—now dubbed the “Bad Karma issue”—of the Dead Mule School of Southern Literature, along with some great essayists and short stories writers. Just a few left to post, I think.
Collin Kelley noticed his poems were posted on Saturday, writing explanations for his blog readers about how they came into being. Sherry Chandler posted about hers on Sunday and mentioned a friend who’s also in the Mule.
HTML and other computer-related issues have ’bout whupped the donkey’s—oops, I mean the mule’s dead—rear end this time. But that should take nothing from the great writing. The Mule prides itself in attracting great writers. Nice ones, too. We’re working hard to make the Mule something that is easily recognized as as special as it is. (Don’t ya just love sentences like a that! The computer swears you’re wrong, but you’re right.)
In addition to Collin Kelley and SherryChandler, there are poems from Felicia Mitchell, Jillian Meyer-Bledsoe, Susan Kathryn de Vegter, Julianne Matlig Vince, Doug Ramspeck, Jane K. Kretschmann, Carrie Teresa Maison, Jeffery Beam, Matt Jones, S. Scott Whitaker, and Darrell B. Grayson.
One poet whose chapbook has not yet been posted is Jude Roy. Val tells me Jude was in the very first issue of the Mule and will understand. Jude’s chapbook, Forteana, is worth waiting for. Would I lie?
Amid the good writing and frustrating software, we had only one incident we’d rather not remember. But never mind those details. Just a quick note to self: Think before you write. You may be sorry later.
Many thanks are in order to all the poets and writers who sent great work and acted like we’re—well, human. Mostly they waited patiently for us to solve the problems that had nothing to do with them.
EDIT: Jude Roy’s chapbook is now online at the Mule.
