“And suddenly there came a sound from heaven
as of a rushing mighty wind. . . .” Acts 2:2
There are tongues of fire
and other tongues, hot with passion
but sometimes belittling. Only the first
truly matters. The spirit is the wind
that blows where it will. Speaking
in an unknown language is not the way
most Christians react to God. The spirit-
wind blows where it will, so that
sometimes the fire of God comes softly—
like a butterfly or a whispered prayer,
a command to visit the sick and/
or the poor, or to be a good mom.
Remember the crippled boy
who took that “leap of faith” in the movie
with the same name? The genuine
came amid the clowning, driving
a charlatan from a Big-Tent Meeting:
A traveling show. But the wind that held
the spirit went where it would. Yes,
there are tongues of fire, but do not belittle,
because sometimes, the lame stand up
and walk without saying a word. They
walk like fire on the wind. And the blind,
believing, sometimes see. Without any
glossolalia or uplifted palms, they’re set
on fire for Jesus by the spirit in the wind.
If you don’t see the air, does that
mean it’s not there?

Helen,
With all due respect, their are no other examples in the Bible that point to people receiving the Holy Spirit outside of them speaking in other tongues.
Acts 1:8, 2:38-39,10:36 and 19:5. Mark 16:15-16 also has gives us some very strong language regarding those that don’t recieve the Holy Spirit, evidence by speaking in an unknown tongue.
